Each family is required to donate 20 service hours per year (or $200 in lieu of these hours).

Below are the volunteer opportunities available to parents of St. Irene students. There are many at-school and at-home opportunities to complete your service hours. Please contact the coordinator to volunteer.

Service Coordinator Description

Volunteers/Room Parents

Lois Hitchcock Classroom parties are held for Halloween, Christmas and Valentine' s Day. Volunteers are needed to plan and run the party, which may include games and goodie bags. Bakers are needed to help with the party food. You will receive $1 per child for each party for expenses.
Lunch Monitors Lorinda Oertel Monitor a grade during the 20-minute lunch and 20 minute recess period. This commitment can be as little as 1 lunch period per month or many lunch periods.
Hot Lunch Pam Wack Help with setup, serving and cleanup on Wednesdays from 11:00am to 12:30pm twice a month.
Accelerated Reader    
~ program & prizes Tina Wagner
Katie Penney
Help students in grades K-3 take weekly-computerized accelerated reader comprehension tests. Setup, assist and take down the prize displays during the monthly prize shopping days.
~ breakfast/ lunch Colleen Brummel

Assist with setup, serving and cleanup at the breakfast and/or lunch for grades 1 to 5 in September and May.

Present monthly artist's work, from the "Picture Parent's Program" to a class. One artist each month, presentation material provided.

Halloween Dance Denise Miller Setup, monitor or cleanup at the annual Halloween dance held the end of October.
New Family Fellowship Program Kim Gartlan This is an opportunity to make a new school family feel right at home. You will be matched with a new school family who you will contact prior to the start of school to answer questions, meet and get to know.

Santa's workshop is held one day in late November. Help the students select just the right gift and assist with gift-wrapping.
End of School Picnic Stacey Riggs Plan, setup, serve or cleanup at the End of School picnic, usually held at Cerny Park, on the last day of school.
Hospitality Committee Sandy Schneider Bake/cook, setup, serve or cleanup at various social events throughout the school year. Events include school open houses, parent/teacher conferences, staff meetings, graduation receptions, appreciation parties, grandparent' s day and other special functions.
Yearbook Pam Wack

Photographers: Take pictures of student activities and sports events, classroom parties and activities throughout the year. Submit the pictures to the yearbook committee.

Layout: Assist in the planning and development of the yearbook layout utilizing the pictures taken by the photographers

Fall Classroom Cleaning Pamela Keating Help get the school and classrooms ready for the first day of school. Distribute and open boxes of books and workbooks. Clean desks and equipment. Check computer equipment. Etc.
Office Help Mrs. White Assist with photocopying, stuffing weekly brown envelopes, eye and hearing exams and other office work.
Wrapping Paper Sale Chris Isdale

Collect and tabulate wrapping sales envelopes from the classroom to submit to the coordinator. Assist on the day of delivery by putting boxes in class order for after-school pickup.

Assist with Market Day pickups, usually Saturday mornings. Assist families as they come to pickup market day. Dads and students needed to carry boxes to cars in the parking lot. 
Sweatshirt Sales Pat McGuire Produce and sell spirit sweatshirts.
Used Uniform Sales Jean Marie Kauth Collect donations of used uniforms and resell them to other St. Irene families
Spring Flower Sale Colleen Brummel

Collect and tabulate flower sale orders from the classroom to submit to the coordinator.  Assist on the day of delivery for after- school pickup.

Grandparents/Special Persons Day Lisa Gruneisen

Plan, setup, serve or cleanup at the school hospitality.

Newsletter Lisa Garhan Write and produce the PACE newsletter for parents
Website Committee Julie Hentz Assist in maintaining up-to-date information on the school website.
General Mills Box Tops Te Reid Collect, batch and give General Mills box tops to Coordinator.
Campbell Soup Labels Nancy Caesar Collect, batch and give soup labels to Coordinator.
8th Annual Appeal Patrick McGowan Coordinate mailings for annual development direct mail drive.  Also includes coordinating parish hospitality as "thank you" in Fall.
Athletic Board Liaison Acts as go-between for PACE and Athletic Board
Library Books Lorinda Oertel

Help the students select and checkout books during class library time.

Dine Out Nites Renee O' Brien

Arrange Dine out at the selected restaurant on the designated day and a portion of the sales is returned to St. Irene.
